SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Submit only original, unpublished
work (including work published online or in any other electronic form)
English, Spanish, Spanglish or any combination thereof is welcome.
Include a brief cover letter and a #10 self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE) for response only. Manuscripts will not be returned and will be shredded and recycled if not accepted for
publication
No genre
work, i.e., mystery, romance, suspense, science fiction, etc.
Simultaneous and multiple submissions are okay, provided we are notified promptly of acceptance elsewhere
MANUSCRIPT FORMAT
- word-processed or typed submissions only; use a 12-point standard typeface (e.g., Courier, Times, or similar
font)
- number all pages
- name, mailing address, phone number and e-mail address
in the top left corner of the first page
- title and author name at top left of each succeeding page
- for fiction and novel excerpts, include word count at the top right corner of the first page
Fiction: 4000 words maximum. Double-spaced with minimum 1-inch
margins all around.
Flash fiction to 750 words. Three stories maximum per submission.
Innovative/hybrid work to 12 pages.
Poetry: No maximum length. Up to five poems per submission.
Single-spaced okay.
Short Plays: Up to 15 pages
Novel Excerpts: Self-contained or standalone chapters or excerpts of up to 4000 words
RIGHTS AND PAYMENT
PALABRA acquires first serial rights, electronic promotional rights, and nonexclusive print anthology rights. Author
retains all other rights.
For work accepted for publication PALABRA will pay $25.00 to $35.00 per piece. Authors whose work is published in
the magazine will also receive two complimentary copies of the issue in which their work appears.
DEADLINES
PALABRA is published twice per year. Submissions are accepted year-round. Manuscripts received after the internal
deadline will be considered for the subsequent issue. Submit by USPS only. No electronic submissions. Response time is
